Leg Veins

The CoolGlide Xeo laser delivers a precise dosage of energy to each vein, with minimal risk to the skin. During the treatments, light energy is delivered through a special hand piece to the targeted vein. The energy is then absorbed by the blood vessel. The heat/energy absorption causes the clogging of the blood vessel which is then slowly absorbed by the body. This system treats only the targeted vessels leaving the surrounding tissue intact.

Typically, multiple treatments are necessary to achieve optimal results. Tiny pink and red vessels usually require two to three treatments to achieve acceptable results. Veins that are purplish are usually more difficult to remove, and require more treatments. Treatments are spaced at four to six week intervals.

Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy is an in-office injection procedure for removing spider and some varicose leg veins. It is a relatively inexpensive procedure that has good results after a few sessions. A concentrated saline or specially developed medicine is injected into the spider or varicose vein.

The solution causes the vein to disappear and eventually be absorbed by the body. The work of carrying the blood is shifted to other healthy vessels nearby.

Sclerotherapy generally requires multiple treatments. Two to four sessions are usually required to achieve optimum results. The same area should not be retreated for two weeks to allow for complete healing, although other areas may undergo treatment during this time.

Post-treatment therapy includes wearing a dressing and sometimes support hose for two to three days to keep pressure on the veins and speed healing. Walking and moderate exercise also helps recovery by increasing blood flow to the area. Although sclerotherapy works for existing spider veins, it does not prevent new ones from developing.
